Beyond the Surface:

Have you ever felt like you were doing all the "right" things for your mental wellness—attending sessions and practicing self-care—yet you still felt a sense of emptiness or dysregulation? Lately, I have observed a common thread in my work with clients: a deep desire to be seen, a need to feel truly safe, and a struggle to stay regulated in a world that often feels chaotic.

This blog is becoming a vital outlet for me to explore these themes and provide the feedback we need to grow, not just as individuals, but as a collective community. This journey wasn’t built on a whim; it was born out of a necessity to see mental health differently.

The "Why" Behind Be Strong: Removing the Mask

My journey began as a dedicated caseworker, coordinating services and linking people to essential resources. While working alongside private practice clinicians, I recognized the advantages of entrepreneurship, but I also witnessed the significant toll this profession can take on self-care. I saw far too many people "performing" wellness while hurting deeply beneath the surface.

In the Spring of 2022, a pivotal life event tested me both personally and professionally. I began to see reflections of those clinicians in my own experience and realized I was in environments and relationships that prevented me from showing up as my best self. To pursue the trauma-focused work I am passionate about while maintaining my own health, I knew I had to create a sanctuary where the "mask" is no longer required.

Healing Through Community

Healing from social-emotional trauma isn't just about "getting over it"; it is about evaluating the spaces we inhabit. To truly heal, we need communities that offer:

Safety & Vulnerability: The ability to show up with our flaws and have our emotional needs met.
Nurturance & Support: A sense of reciprocity where we give and receive care in equal measure.
Accountability: Being held to a standard of integrity by people who genuinely care about our growth.

The Shift: Why Somatic Therapy?

At Be Strong Mental Health, my approach honors the inseparable link between the mind and the body. In the past, mental health was often treated "from the neck up". However, trauma is social-emotional—it lives in our nervous systems, our muscles, and our breath.

Think of it this way: if talk therapy updates the "software" of your mind, Somatic Therapy repairs the "hardware" of your body. Take a moment right now—do you feel tension in your jaw, tightness in your shoulders, or shallow breathing? By focusing on these internal physical sensations, we can release the trauma that talk therapy sometimes cannot reach. My goal is to teach your body that it is finally safe.

New Services: Bridging the Gap

To support this holistic shift, I am merging my experience as a fitness coach with my clinical work to introduce services that bridge the gap between mental clarity and physical wellness:

The Be Strong Mental Health Barbell Club: A space for the community to gather and engage in a healthy social, emotional, and physical way while being supported and coached.
Mental and Performance Coaching for Athletes: Helping athletes develop the physical and mental skills that translate beyond their specific sport.

Taking the Healing Outside: Summer 2026 Events
